"TWO
TOWERS" SWEEPS THE CRIBBIES
Middle-Earth Epic Takes Six Awards; Cribbies Hall of Awesome Inaugurated
In a star-studded ceremony lasting only ten minutes, the fifth annual Cribbies
for achievement in Filmmaking, Acting, and Hotness were awarded this morning.
Peter Jackson's THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS was the overwhelming
winner, taking an unprecedented six awards back to New Zealand. The burly Kiwi
drank all six of his awards -- glasses of Jack Daniels sippin' whiskey -- and
spent most of the ceremony asleep in his chair.
Trailing far behind TWO TOWERS with two awards each were the Weitz brothers'
comedy ABOUT A BOY, Spike Jonze's ADAPTATION, and Todd Haynes' Douglas Sirk
fantasia FAR FROM HEAVEN. Many multiple nominees were shut out, including Y TU
MAMA TAMBIEN, MONSOON WEDDING, and Oscar champ CHICAGO.
2003's big loser was STAR WARS EPISODE 2, which swept the Loser Awards -- Worst
Actress (Natalie Portman), Worst Actor (Hayden Christiansen), and, in a tie,
Worst Picture.
On the occasion of the Cribbies' fifth anniversary, all past Cribbie winners
were invited onstage to wave to the crowd. The highlight of this star-studded
event was the dramatic onstage kiss between Fred Willard (Best Bit Part 2001)
and Mariah Carey (Worst Actress 2002).The two left the ceremony together and
were later seen canoodling in the Krispy Kreme on 125th Street.
In addition, the Cribbies administration announced the creation of the Cribbies
Hall of Awesome. "Though these first twelve inductees may not be household
names," the administration noted in a press release, "all twelve make
any movie with which they're involved exponentially more awesome. We are pleased
to inaugurate the HoA with these fine performers."
The twelve performers inducted into the Hall of Awesome for 2003 are:
Ice Cube (THREE KINGS, BOYZ N THE HOOD, BARBERSHOP)
Luis Guzman (THE LIMEY, TRAFFIC, PUNCH DRUNK LOVE)
Dan Hedaya (TO DIE FOR, DICK, MULHOLLAND DRIVE)
